The government has announced new targeted grants of up to £500 a week for businesses affected by local lockdowns.

Businesses can claim grants of up to £1,500 every three weeks (the local lockdown period) and can continue to do so while a local lockdown is in place.

To be eligible for the grant, a business must have been required to close due to local Covid-19 restrictions – if it’s closed because of national restrictions (nightclubs, for example) then it won’t be eligible for the grant.

It’s not a lot in terms of income, but it could prove to be a lifeline for many small businesses.
