The Green Homes Grant that Rishi Sunak announced earlier this year has been extended for an extra year.
As I wrote before, depending on your circumstances, you could get up to £10,000 to add improvements to your property that will up its green credentials.
The money will be paid in “vouchers”, which can go towards labour, materials and VAT.
Examples of works you can have done include adding loft insulation or installing biomass boilers.
You have to be a homeowner or a residential landlord in England to be eligible for the scheme and the vouchers are only valid for three months, although you can extend them in certain circumstances.
While previously you had to redeem the voucher and have all the improvement works completed by 31 March 2021, the government has now extended this to 31 March 2022 – no doubt because of the disruptions due to coronavirus.
The current government guidance is that you can still have work done on your home as long as the tradesperson does it under a Covid-secure environment.
