What to read right now…
No big surprise: The gender pay gap is still massive – and it’s widening in many sectors.
Apparently business analytics is the degree to study if you want a high paying job.
Omaze has been doing the rounds big time in recent weeks. First here’s this piece about what it’s like to win the top prize.
And then there’s this one about how many people actually keep the multi-million pound houses they win. I’d probably sell up. How about you?
This one is for listening to actually… Think they don’t make them like they used to? Well, this podcast on planned obsolescence will put things into perspective.
The deal that’s a steal…
AO.com is currently selling this Smeg SMF02BLUK 4.8l stand mixer* for £379 – a saving of £70 from the RRP of £449.
It’s the cheapest around from the main retailers that I can see.
I’ve tested Smeg’s stand mixers before, and the results are pretty decent.
What they have over the competition in the premium end of stand mixers is the style – basically they look seriously good in your kitchen.
And an actual freebie…
If you’re a new or existing member of Club Lloyds, which comes with Lloyds Bank’s selection of paid current accounts, you can now get a free 12 month subscription to Disney+.
For comparison, Disney+ currently costs £7.99 per month, or £79.90 for an annual subscription.
The most basic Club Lloyds account attracts a £3 monthly fee (£36 a year), which is waived if you pay in at least £2,000 a month.
There are no switching offers for Lloyds Bank at the moment but it’s a great deal if you don’t mind switching.
There are other ways you can watch TV for free though.
If you only do one thing…
Shop around for a new broadband deal.
There aren’t brilliant offers around at the moment but given that lots of broadband providers have put up their prices for existing customers, it might be worth switching, especially if you’re out of contract – and there are millions of people in that category at any one time.
MoneySuperMarket* is a good place to start for comparisons.
For example, the current cheapest fibre broadband available to me is Vodafone*, which costs £24 a month, while the regular broadband from Now* is available for £18 a month.
It’s worth bearing in mind though that the lead rate advertised may not always be available in your area.
This is because providers generally price different areas differently and of course you may not have enough competition in your area to get the best deals.
