What to read right now…

The median pay of a FTSE 100 chief executive is now £4.58m a year.

Meanwhile, salaries for the average Briton, adjusted for inflation, have grown less than 1% in the last year. Unless you work in the public sector, that is.

On a different note, rent is expected to go up in the near future because there aren’t enough new properties coming on to the market.

And finally, women get on average £7,600 less a year in pension pay than men. Unpaid caring responsibilities, gender pay gap and State Pension differences are all contributing factors.

It’s a good time to resurface this piece on how women can plan for financial freedom.

The deal that’s a steal…

If you’re looking for a new sim-only deal, there are lots of offers on Mobiles.co.uk* at the moment for ID Mobile*.

For example, you can get a 40GB per month sim-only deal for the equivalent of £4 a month after cashback on a 12-month contract.

You’ll pay £8 a month – the normal price of the contract – and then make a claim for the difference.

It’s a bit of a faff but it does mean you’ll get the cheapest deal around.

After 12 months, you can switch to another deal or stick with the same one – there are no annual price rises for ID’s sim-only deals so you could potentially pay £8 a month forever.

I’ve been on ID Mobile for years and would definitely recommend them.

For me, they’ve been fantastic for being both affordable and travel-friendly (see my guide to travel sims for cheap roaming).

They also do data rollovers so you can use your leftover data the following month.

If you only do one thing…

Well, in my day job, I’m one of the mentors for the 2025 season of the Talking Travel Writing mentoring scheme.

It’s geared towards aspiring travel writers and is completely free.

You’ll get four one-hour mentoring sessions with me or one of the other mentors if you’re picked.
