What to read right now…

Average mortgage prices are falling according to the latest index from Rightmove, but so are average house prices.

On a different note, the latest Whole of Government Accounts have just been released, which covers the tax year 2023-24.

The results have been rubbished by the National Audit Office because only 4% of English local authorities were able to produce audited accounts for inclusion. Worrying, when this is the data used to make policy decisions.

Meanwhile, cash is having a bit of a resurgence in the UK. In part it’s because of the power outages in Spain and Portugal in April 2025, when ATMs and electronic payment systems stopped working.

And finally, an interesting look at how the cost of living is affecting hair styles.

The deal that’s a steal…

Elements Griffin compact bedside table

Dunelm* is currently having a summer clearance with hundreds of items at 75% off.

The biggest savings are in furniture, but there are also bargains for beddings and other household items.

The best thing I spotted? This Elements Griffin compact bedside table*.

It normally retails at £79 but is currently just £19.75 – you do have to pay for delivery though.

And an actual freebie…

Lidl is offering its app users thousands of free activities around the UK this summer.

You’ll need to download the app if you haven’t already, and have created a free Lidl Plus account first.

And then once you’ve logged in, go to the more section to find the partner offers section for all the details.

There’s everything from escape rooms and laser tag to museum visits and fitness lessons.
