Savings jar

What to read right now…

Millions more people will have to pay tax on their savings as higher interest rates push them over the threshold of their personal savings allowance.

Which is a good time for NS&I to announce that the odds of winning on their Premium Bonds are improving from August.

I’m not normally a fan, but this could really change things, especially for higher and additional earners who just need somewhere to park their cash.

Meanwhile, here’s an interesting feature on property and modern romance.

When coupled with this analysis on the current state of the housing market, it leaves much for thought

The deal that’s a steal…

Argos is celebrating its 50th birthday this weekend, which means until July 31, you can get up to 25% off big brands plus five times the usual Nectar points.

Dyson, Samsung, and Russell Hobbs are among the brands on offer.

Remember, if you shop online, you can get cashback via TopCashback* or Quidco*.

And an actual freebie…

A sort of freebie this week: grüum* are giving away a 50ml bottle of their SPF30 Facial Sunscreen – but you have to pay £3.95 for shipping.

It normally retails for £8, so is a pretty good saving.

But, they’re also currently having a sale. And if you make £25 worth of purchases your shipping will be free.

Worth considering.

If you only do one thing…

Start your tax return now if you’re self-employed.

I’m feeling smug as I’ve already completed mine for 2022/2023, which means I have the next six months to plan how much I need to save for taxes.

It gives me more time to save, but also means it’s out of the way.

I also tend to do it at this time of the year because there are fewer distractions, and all the documents I need – savings tax certificate for example – will have been issued.
