One bedroom flats are the worst investment property

What to read right now…

New sick pay and parental leave rules are now in place, giving workers many more rights.

Sadly the changes won’t affect those who are self employed, but here’s a guide to sick pay for the self employed that might help.

On a different note, investing at the beginning rather than the end of the tax year could leave you £44,000 better off.

But whatever you do, don’t invest in a one bedroom flat. They have apparently become the worst type of investment property, even falling behind studio flats.

And finally, it’s bad news for retirees. They are increasingly returning to work because of the cost of living – but also because they’re lonely.

The deal that’s a steal…

Eurohike Nova 25l daysack

Millets* are having a massive sale at the moment, with up to 60% off across outdoor clothing, shoes and gear.

The biggest savings seem to be kids’ outerwear, but there are some ridiculous bargains elsewhere as well.

The best ones I spotted were on backpacks and rucksacks from Eurohike.

The Eurohike Nova 25l daysack*, for example, is just £10; its RRP is £40.

There’s also the Eurohike Nepal 65 rucksack*, which has been discounted to £25; its RRP is £60.

Incidentally Millets are owned by the same parent company as Blacks* and GO Outdoors* so you’ll find the same deals there as well.

If you only do one thing…

Have you thought about retirement?

I think about it all the time, mainly because I’m saving for a micro-retirement right now.

But the story about pensioners needing to go back to work got me thinking that we should all think about retirement planning a bit more.

I wrote this guide on how much money you need to retire a while ago.

The figures are a little out of date now – basically you need even more money – but the principal applies. Give it a read.
