What to read right now…

Confused about all the headlines around the Bank of England, bonds and pensions? Here’s a great explainer on exactly what it’s about.

Deliveroo and Klarna have teamed up to offer a sort of eat now, pay later set up. And people are quite rightly concerned.

Netflix are launching a £4.99 subscription that comes with ads. The thing is, there are lots of places where you can watch TV and films for free (with ads).

Turns out, there’s a sort of postcode lottery on energy prices. And it might surprise you to learn that the region paying the highest rates isn’t in London.

And… just a fun crib sheet of financial terms. Working these into conversation, however…

The deal that’s a steal…

Thinking about dipping your toes into investing? Quite a few investment platforms are offering sign up incentives at the moment.

The best seems to be from Moneyfarm, which is offering up to £500 cashback on deposits upwards of £50,000.

You don’t have to put in that much money though.

A minimum deposit of £2,500 is needed for any cashback – then the more you put in, the more you get back.

Other big platforms including AJ Bell, Bestinvest, Interactive Investor* and Wealthify are all currently running some form of cashback promotion.

I’m not currently using any of these platforms so I can’t tell you the pros and cons – that is to say, do your own research to see if they’ll work for you.

Before you sign up though, make sure you understand the terms and conditions, and of course the risks around investing, especially in such volatile market conditions.

And an actual freebie…

If you’re an Octopus customer and are on a low income, it’s worth getting in touch to see whether you can get an energy efficient electric blanket for free to keep you warm this winter,

They have 10,000 to give away this year, which will only go to the most vulnerable.

Octopus reckons you can save a lot of energy because instead of heating up the whole house, you’d heat up the person – it’s much faster and therefore energy efficient.

If you only do one thing…
