How to use Money Talk
Welcome to Money Talk, a website designed to help you save money and grow wealth.
The homepage is always the best place to find the latest content but if you need some help navigating the site, here’s what you’ll find in each section.
Reviews
Some of the most popular posts on Money Talk are in the reviews section.
They range from my personal experience with a particular product – like my Temu review, for example – to an analysis of something that I think would be useful to others, such as Boshhh, the mobile network designed to help you build your credit score.
Occasionally I’ll do comparisons of two products, like when I looked at the pros and cons of Nutmeg and Hargreaves Lansdown.
Round ups of multiple products will also sit here. By that I mean posts like the best savings accounts with a prize draw and the top bank switching offers.
Growing wealth
In the growing wealth section, I cover things that can help you make more money in the short to medium term.
So posts on savings sit in this section because you can usually make changes to savings quite quickly, and the results are more or less instantaneous.
I’ll also cover things that affect work here, like how to make a request for flexible working arrangements.
For freelancers, anything that impacts those who are self employed will appear under work too. For example, what you need to know when you’re filing your tax return for the first time.
In recognition of the fact that you might want to make a bit more money in your down time, there’s a separate section on side hustles.
Testing products for freebies or for money, selling your old clothes on the internet, and entering competitions are all part of that.
And finally there’s a section on money basics – the know-how guides for when you’re newish to managing your money.
Everything from savings challenges to choosing a financial adviser is covered here.
Everyday spending
The flipside to growing wealth is managing and reducing your spending, and that’s where the everyday spending section comes in.
As you might expect, a lot falls under this remit.
And so you’ll find posts on banking and credit cards, as well as debt.
There are also posts on consumer rights for when things go wrong, and insurance to cover you for the unexpected.
Money saving tips play a big role, too, along with different ways you can reduce household bills.
Long term planning
Long term planning means very little unless you can put things into context – so the posts in this section try to do that.
The best examples are found in the posts around money mindset, like how to create your own financial plan.
Of course, there are also a lot of decisions you make today that can affect your finances in the longer term.
Those on investment, mortgages, and pensions are classic examples and they’re all covered under this section.
Extras
The extras section is one of the smallest main sections.
This is where you’ll find all the deals and digest posts that go into the weekly Money Talk newsletter.
This is also where you’ll find discount codes and other special offers.
Knowledge bank
I have a background in economics so things that affect the economy are naturally interesting to me.
They don’t always affect personal finance decisions, but they can certainly inform them.
So all of these background actors sit in the knowledge bank sections because I believe they’re useful to know even if you never actually use them.
Hot take
Last but not least is the hot take section.
These are short opinion pieces and posts on my reflections on money.
Reading these won’t help you improve your financial knowledge, but they can help you get an idea of how I approach money.
