What to read right now…

Some employees in the UK are doing two hours of unpaid overtime a day.

Meanwhile, the number of people struggling with mortgage payments is increasing – and nearly a quarter are turning to credit for help.

In more depressing news, the state pension age may need to be increased to 71 to make it financially viable.

And women apparently need to work an extra 19 years in order to retire with the same sized pension pot as men.

Finally, you may be surprised to learn that bulk buying may not actually save you money. Instead, you need to take a closer look at the per-unit pricing of what you’re buying.

The deal that’s a steal…

Looking to buy flowers for a special occasion?

Appleyard London* is offering 25% off all full-priced bouquets.

All you have to do is enter the discount code SKMX25 at checkout.

The code is valid now until 31 December 2024.

And an actual freebie…

Cleaning brand Smol* are currently offering free trials on their products.

They have everything from laundry and dishwashing tablets to fabric conditioners.

However, you do have to pay £1 for postage. You also have to sign up for a subscription, although you can cancel this before they take your money.

While not completely free, it is a good way to try their products, which can work out cheaper than some of the big brand names.

If you only do one thing…

Set up your mobile banking app if you haven’t already.

It might seem like a small thing to do but it can make a big difference to how you manage your money.

For one, your bank balance will be within much easier reach than if you had to log into your account on a laptop.

This should in turn help you to spot when things go wrong, like a fraudulent or error charge, so the issue can be quickly addressed.
