Monopoly houses

What to read right now…

The Energy Price Cap is going up again in January, which means electricity will be slightly more expensive. The headline increase is around £100 – here’s why that figure is actually meaningless.

Flat and some house owners, the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill has been released! Except, it doesn’t quite live up to the name.

Meanwhile, the Financial Conduct Authority has announced its long awaited anti-greenwashing rule for investments, which should help make navigating ESG investments much easier.

Here’s something a little bit different: UBS has unveiled its 2023 Billionaire Ambitions Report. As the name suggests, it’s all about what billionaires want to do with their money. But curiously, this is the first time in the report’s history that there are more billionaires created through inheritance than entrepreneurship.

And one for bedtime reading (probably), the Office for Budget Responsibility has published its latest economic and fiscal outlook. The upshot is that the economy is doing better than expected, but growth is slowing and inflation is expected to be persistent.

The deal that’s a steal…

In the market for an air fryer? Robert Dyas is currently selling the Daewoo SDA2611RD 2L Single Pot Air Fryer* for just £19.99.

It’s £40 off the RRP and is the cheapest I’ve seen air fryers.

It’s worth bearing in mind that it’s just a 2L one, which means it’s only suitable for one or two people.

You won’t be able to heat up big dinners basically.

And an actual freebie…

This one is a sort of freebie.

The London Mint Office* is offering a free Mickey Mouse coin to celebrate 100 years of Disney.

It’s legal tender, but seemingly for Barbados, and is worth just 25 cents.

You’ll also have to pay postage and packaging of £2.50.

It’s not quite worth it just for the freebie but if you’re a Disney fan, it’s a nice little collectible.

If you only do one thing…

Download the John Lewis app, create an account with them and join My John Lewis.

The department store has launched its 12 Treats of Christmas promotion, where for the first 12 days of December, it’s giving away lots of free treats and discounts.

The only way to access the promotion is through the app.

Once you’re logged in, you should be able to see the virtual advent windows and claim your prize.

The first window, on 1 December, was a Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push-Up Lashes mini mascara.

Don’t worry – you can open the windows of the previous days too, and you’ll have until the final day to collect any prizes, or until they run out.
