The Green Homes Grant, which was announced earlier this year as part of Rishi Sunak’s A Plan for Jobs, is now open for applications.

Depending on your circumstances, you could get up to £10,000 to add improvements to your property that will up its green credentials.

The money will be paid in “vouchers”, which can go towards labour, materials and VAT.

Examples of works you can have done include adding loft insulation or installing biomass boilers.

You have to be a homeowner or a residential landlord in England to be eligible for the scheme. Additional schemes may be available in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

You also have to make sure you redeem the voucher and complete the improvement works by 31 March 2021, which will roll round sooner than you might think.
