It’s a bleak time for businesses and therefore the economy

What to read right now…
More and more founders are choosing to sell their businesses rather than trying to grow it.
It’s hardly surprising given the number of businesses in distress are at their highest in two decades.
Staffing costs will be a key factor. The annual cost of hiring a minimum wage worker has increased by over £4,000. One can only extrapolate that it’s even higher for salaried workers.
Meanwhile, consumer confidence has taken a bit of a dive lately so people aren’t spending as much.
All that paints a pretty bleak picture for the economy right now.
It might sound abstract but it’s really important. After all, all of our jobs are tied to the successes of one business or another.
The deal that’s a steal…

Things are already hotting up for Black Friday.
By the way, if you’re planning to do some discount shopping, this Black Friday sale guide will be helpful for sleuthing out those bargains.
Anyway, back to deal hunting.
Trip.com* has some incredible Black Friday discounts coming up across trains, hotels, flights, attractions, tours and more.
Some require you to download the app, with discounts just for new users, but for others you can just book through their website.
I get esims from them all the time, and occasionally flights.
One of the best deals I spotted is that you can get an annual railcard for just £1 instead of the usual £35.
Railcards don’t always represent good value if you’re paying £35 for the year but at £1, you’ll definitely make a saving.
If you only do one thing…
Redundancies are sadly on the rise, which means it’s a good time to think about your financial future and get an emergency fund in place if you don’t already have one.
The other thing I’d do is brush up on your CV so you’re ready if the cut comes.
